Bring some sweet fun to your elementary music classroom with this Valentine's Day music game! Perfect for music stations, music centers, or whole-class activities, this resource offers four engaging ways for students to practice and master rhythm concepts. Whether you're looking for hands-on learning, interactive group activities, or a creative craft, this resource has everything you need to keep students engaged in February.

As music teachers, we know that student engagement goes through the roof when we add the excitement of a holiday or theme! This rhythm cookie resource is not only an engaging activity, but also is an effective way to reinforce rhythm concepts!

Includes:

  • Teacher Instructions
  • Rhythm Charts for Reference
  • Cookie and Pan Templates
  • Rhythm Cards (Two Levels: Quarter & Eighth Notes, Eighth & Sixteenth Notes)
  • Cookie Pattern Cards

Four Ways to Play:

  1. Rhythm Cards:
Students pick a rhythm card and place it on their tray/pan. Then, they find cookies to match the rhythm. Repeat until all rhythm cards are matched. Perfect for differentiated learning with two rhythm sets included.
  2. Cookie Pattern Cards:
Students choose a cookie pattern card, place it on their tray/pan, and decode the pattern by writing the rhythms. This activity can be used with either rhythm set, making it adaptable for multiple grade levels.
  3. Cookie Stations:
Set up a station where students create their own cookie patterns on the pan. Then, they decode the rhythm and write it on a blank pan template. Options include laminating the template for reuse or using paper copies for assessment.
  4. Composition Craft:
Students compose their own rhythm patterns using cookie shapes. After selecting and arranging their cookies, they decode the rhythm and write it on their pan. They can then cut, color, and glue their cookies for a fun and creative keepsake. Multiple pan options are included for 4-beat and 8-beat compositions!

This resource makes rhythm practice engaging and hands-on with its Valentine-theme! It's perfect for winter music activities, giving students multiple ways to learn and practice rhythms while having fun.

With everything included in one resource, you’ll save time planning and prepping your lessons. Instead of searching for separate music games, music centers, and crafts, this ready-to-go activity gives you multiple options to fit your schedule and your students’ needs. Simply print, laminate (if desired), and you’re ready to go!

This elementary music resource supports rhythm learning by giving students the opportunity to practice decoding, writing, and composing rhythms in a fun and meaningful way. Each activity is hands-on, allowing students to build confidence and improve their rhythm skills through active engagement. With differentiated rhythm sets, it’s easy to meet the needs of all your learners, from beginners to more advanced students.

By incorporating these activities into your music centers or as a standalone lesson, students will get repeated exposure to essential rhythm concepts. Plus, the creative composition craft provides a tangible project they’ll be proud to take home!
