National Music Standards Bulletin Board Display - I Can Statements & Posters

Do you struggle with keeping standards posted in your elementary music classroom? We all know that our admin loves seeing I Can Statements for Music posted at all times in your classroom. Make it easy with this set of National Music Standards Posters & I Can Statements. These music standards posters were created to be used with multiple grade levels so you don’t have to change them out all the time!
Your elementary music students will benefit from having the standards posted for each lesson. Not only will they know their learning targets for the day, but you’ll be able to align all of your lessons with the National Music Standards.
This resource aligns with the National Core Arts Standards for Music. It includes the four Domains: Create, Perform, Respond, and Connect; and an I Can statement for each Anchor Standard. Keep reading to see the wording used for each I Can Statement.
Also included are half-sized header cards that have each of the four domains. These are wonderful for using as manipulatives on your whiteboard!
Each music standards poster includes the domain and an “I Can” version of the anchor standard. These were created to be general so they can be used with multiple grade levels! Below you will find a list of what each music standard poster says.
Create:
- I can create my own musical ideas.
- I can use my musical ideas for a specific purpose.
- I can perform and evaluate musical ideas.
- I can explain and share musical ideas with others.
Perform
- I can choose music for different types of performances.
- I can analyze musical concepts and explain why they were chosen for a particular piece.
- I can interpret musical concepts within a given piece.
- I can evaluate and adjust individually and group performances.
- I can perform music correctly and musically for an audience.
Respond
- I can choose music intended for a specific purpose.
- I can discover and explain how musical ideas are used in a specific piece.
- I can analyze and explain why musical concepts create a response to the music.
- I can evaluate musical performances based on certain criteria.
Connect
- I can relate music to my everyday life.
- I can connect my ideas and experiences while making music.
Since these music standards posters have broad interpretations of the anchor standards, they can be displayed all year long! Instead of changing out your standards for each lesson, simply print these and hang them in a prominent place in your elementary music classroom.
You might even create a system that allows students to see which standard they will be working on that day. For example, you could use a clothespin labeled “2nd grade” and clip it to the appropriate anchor standard. Then follow the same process for the other grade levels.
