Monster Mash Dance for Elementary Music

It’s spooky season! 🎃 Y’all know that Halloween is my favorite holiday of the year, so here’s a fun and quick movement activity you can do with your PreK-2nd grade kiddos!

I found this video years ago on YouTube and I’ve been using it with my littles ever since! They seriously ask for it every year! We even did it on a program one year and it was a crowd favorite!

Do each of the moves for eight beats. In the video, you can see they turn to face different parts of the room. I don’t do this with the little ones, but 2nd grade could probably handle it! Repeat these steps over and over until the end of the song.

  1. Zombie- arms straight out in front of you stepping side to side
  2. Dracula- cover your face with your “cloak”
  3. Werewolf- drag your claws down on the left then the right
  4. Shake- shake your booty (here is where they turn, but I skip that part)
  5. Swim with your arms
  6. Twist your left leg
  7. Swim with your arms
  8. Twist with your right leg

This dance is seriously so much fun! The kids are engaged the whole time and it gets their wiggles out! As an extension, you could even have the kids come up with other “spooky” movements to add into the dance! (Spiders, jack-o-lanterns faces, ghost sounds, etc.) When you do this with your kiddos, share it on Instagram and tag me @musicfromb2z!
