Halloween Centers in the Music Classroom

My favorite time of year is here! FALL, Y’ALL!!!!! Halloween is my favorite holiday of the year and we celebrate in my classroom all month long! Since October can be a stressful time for music teachers (Halloween, Veterans Day and Christmas music all at the same time), I like to do fun activities that are low prep. It makes my life easier and my kiddos love them!

I just finished creating a new set of Halloween Centers for the music room. These are fun, quick stations that will get you through the week of Halloween with no sugar-induced meltdowns!

Pitch Match-Up Station: Word Building & Memory Game

Is it really Halloween without these Target mini erasers? I wait all year to pull these out! They are perfect for this pitch match-up station. I use this station in many different ways, sometimes depending on the class or grade level. My favorite of course, is to have the kiddos build the word with mini erasers. In the set, there are also cards with the notes on the staff. The kiddos can play a memory-style game with these. Sometimes, I’ll have one student read the word and the rest of the kids use fly swatters to find the correct card!

Clip It Cards: Assess Note Differentiation

This is another favorite with my students. The clip-it cards are a quick, easy way to assess what the kiddos are learning. It also gives some differentiation for the friends that need it. I love storing these in the Michael’s photo case containers. Just throw in the cards and some clothespins and it’s done!

Rhythm Task Cards: Read and Play Rhythms!

I’m a big believer in having my kiddos read rhythms every class period. Being able to read and play rhythms fluently is a major goal in every grade level. These rhythm task cards can be used in SO many ways! Usually, we take turns reading and playing them with a partner. In the past, I’ve even had them make up sentences or words to match the rhythms. It’s so fun to hear their creativity!

Spooky Coloring: Match and Associate Note Shapes

My kiddos are obsessed (like, seriously obsessed) with coloring. If we ever do stations and I don’t have a coloring option, they are not pleased. I think coloring sheets are a great way to have them match and associate notes. They think they are just getting to color, but I know there’s more to it than that! Plus, who doesn’t want to color a Frankenstein picture?!
